Giorgio’s set in motion an enchanting evening and a night to remember! Giorgio’s offered us all that we had envisioned & far more than we had hoped for. Truly magical! More than 250 guests enjoyed an evening of dinner, dancing, chance drawing and live auction, raising over 20,000 dollars for Research. Guests began filling Giorgio’s Restaurant & Catering at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy cocktails, hor’ doreves and music by the fantastic Long Island Sound. During our welcoming reception, smiling guests armed with cocktails and delectable hordoreves mingled & explored the beautiful auction items, which filled an entire room, baskets & gifts brimming over with treasures that had been graciously donated by supporters over the last few months and handsomely created by our tireless volunteers. Wave of Hope Honoree’s LI OCEANS is grateful to our honorees for their dedication and commitment to our cause. LI OCEANS was delighted and so proud to to present our 1 st annual “Wave of Hope Awards to our distinguised honoree’s; Eva Chalas MD; Dr. Eva Chalas received her Medical Degree and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Stony Brook University. She completed her fellowship training at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 1987, and returned to Long Island to pursue an academic career in Gynecologic Oncology. She holds the title of Associate Professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at Stony Brook University. She is the Chief of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Winthrop-University Hospital and she is also the President and Managing Partner of Long Island Gynecologic Oncologists, PC. Dr. Chalas also functions as the Coordinator of Clinical Cancer Services at Stony Brook University Hospital’s Cancer Center. Dr. Chalas
is Board Certified in Obstetrics/Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology,
which is her current specialty; she has served as a board examiner since
1995. Dr. Chalas is an active Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians
and Gynecologists (FACOG), and the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
She serves the American College of Surgeons as an ACOG representative
to the Board of Governors. Dr. Chalas is also the Treasurer for ACOG District
II, and has a number of committee appointments in the Society of Gynecologic
Oncologists. She is currently working on a grant with the New York State
Department of Health to educate patients and medical professionals on
Ovarian Cancer and other Gynecologic malignancies. Bob Cox Esquire; Robert Cox has had a distinguished and varied career in legal services. A 1974 graduate of Colgate University, Bob went on to study law at New York Law School at night while working full time. After graduating from law school in 1979, Bob took a position at Citibank and went on to become General Counsel to its multi billion dollar International Consumer Financial businesses. After a 27-year career, Bob left the company three years ago to spend more time with his family and to devote more time to charitable and philanthropic activities. Over the past three years he has taken on a number of roles and responsibilities. He was a founding director and Vice President of the Garden City Student Loan and Scholarship Fund. In 2002 he was elected to the Village Board of Trustees for the Incorporated Village of Saltaire where he has served as Commissioner of Public Health and Safety and most recently as Commissioner of Public Works. He has served
for 8 years as a member of the Board of Governors of the Saltaire Yacht
Club and for the past five years directed the youth sailing program. He has been
an active supporter of the MIRACLE Foundation in Garden City and has most
recently enthusiastically supported the creation and development of Long
Island Oceans. Joan Cox; Joan Cox is a 1972 graduate of Mount Holyoke
College who went on to a distinguished 30 year business career in a variety
of roles. She served as President and CEO of Citicorp Retail Services,
Inc. before taking a senior executive role in Citibank’s credit card business.
Following this Joan served as Director of Human Resources for Citicorp’s
Institutional Banking Businesses before moving on to serve as Chief Operations
Officer for the International Private Banking Group. The very
